Meadows of Dan
Meadows of Dan, Virginia, is located on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 178, just below Mabry Mill. Thousands of people visit the charming community every year, which is known for unique shops and friendly people. Poor Farmer's Market is an old fashioned country store that carries nearly every kind of traditional mountain food you might want, including buckwheat flour, molasses, honey, jams and jellies and hoop cheese. They also have a sandwich shop and a varied and interesting gift shop full of unique souvenirs. Nancy's Fudge is well-known throughout the country as the manufacturer of wonderful candy. There is a delightful retail store filled with every kind of chocolate and candy, including sugarless! There are TWO bookstores in Meadows of Dan. Dan River Books has a great selection of new books at discount prices, along with some nice collectible older editions. Greenberry House specializes in collectible editions, history and also has reading copies. Greenberry House is also a yarn and spinning fiber shop and frequently has interesting collectibles such as dolls, prints, postcards and more. Mountain Meadow Farm and Craft Market is a unique craft shop featuring local artisans and their work, as well as a farmer's market showcasing locally grown fruit and vegetables. These are just a few of the interesting shops in Meadows of Dan. Three antique shops, another country store, several gift shops, a consignment shop, a knife shop, restaurants and even more shops are in the area. On August 9 Meadows of Dan celebrates the Blue Ridge heritage with their annual Folk Fair. |
